Long Island Community Center Celebrates NY Marriage Vote

licenter vote
With only hours notice that the vote on the New York Marriage Equality Act was going to take place, over 125 people gathered at the Long Island Community Center to watch (and celebrate!) the historic vote.

Earlier on June 24th the vote was still in doubt. The Majority Leader of the New York State Senate who resides on Long Island is the sole person that could decide whether a vote would happen or not. The Long Island GLBT Center held a rally outside of his office in Rockville Centre, Nassau County. Over 75 people showed up with 2 hours notice and a loud boisterous rally was held – that evening he brought the Marriage Equality Act for a vote in the NYS Senate and it passed 33-29.  (For video of the rally, Click HERE)
