Memorial Service will be held this Sunday, 5pm at Truth & Destiny Fellowship UCC 4663 Kirby Road 45223.

Local man beaten to death in Chicago - Darius Chambers

Some of you are aware and others are just learning of senseless death of Darius Chambers.  Darius moved to Cincinnati about three years ago and quickly became involved with local LGBTQ organizations.  He served as a Board member of Equality Cincinnati and volunteered with HRC.  He recently lost his job here in Cincinnati and moved to Chicago in hopes of working with a newly funded program to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic among men of color being administered by the Center at Halstead.

Unfortunately, Darius died last Sunday morning after being fatally beaten by young men who wanted his cell phone.  Although, it will not bring Darius back and nor take away our pain, I am glad to say that two of the four young men have been caught and were arraigned today and are being held in Cook County Jail on 1million dollar bond.  Let's  pray for justice, truth and families of these young men who are only 16 and 17 years old.

Death is always untimely and often catches families ill-prepared.  This is exactly the case for Darius' family,  His mother is living on a fixed income and taking care of her only grandchild whose mother, Darius' sister was murdered just a few years ago.  Darius' mother Rosa wishes to bury Darius in Selma, Alabama next to his sisters and grandmother.  His oldest sister died at age 14 in an accident, his mother has now lost all three of her children.

I am reaching out to you, because there is no life insurance to assist with the cost of embalming services and transport from Chicago to Selma.  It is my hope that you will join me in making a financial  gift to help with the $1,600 needed.

You may make checks payable to :  Truth & Destiny Covenant Ministries (please write in the memo: Darius Chambers), mail to: 4663 Kirby Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45223 or visit our web-site at www.truthdestinychurch.org,  click "Connect" then "Donate", then "Donation via Paypal".

Truth & Destiny will be forwarding all funds to Lewis Funeral Home in Selma, Alabama.  I will be traveling to Selma to officiate the services.  No service day and time has been set because the body has not yet been released and the family has been advised to not set it until the release.  Once the release occurs, the body must be prepared and shipped with-in 48 hours and all expenses in Chicago must be paid.

If you have questions, feel free to contact me at 513-628-7515.  I know that this maybe an unusual request, however, I hope everyone will find it in there heart to respond favorably.

Sincerely,

Pastor Lesley
