|1. EHEA Rally, Press Conference, and Lobby Day - Please join Equality Ohio on September 27 at 1:30pm for a Rally, Press Conference, and Lobby Day at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus to support the Equal Housing and Employment Act (EHEA). Your representatives and the people of Ohio need to know that there is broad support for this bill, and your participation is very important!!!|
On September 27, Ohio State Representatives Ross McGregor and Nickie Antonio will introduce EHEA in the House. EHEA prohibits discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Why is this important?
Ohioans can be fired because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender;
Ohioans can be denied housing because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender;
Ohioans can be denied access to public accommodations like hotels, movie theaters, and restaurants because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender;
Transgender people are unemployed at a rate TWICE that of the general population; 47% of transgender people report adverse job consequences (not being hired, being fired, or being denied a promotion); and, 19% of transgender people report being refused a home or apartment because of their gender identity;
Discrimination is bad for the economy of Ohio -- qualified and competent employees should not be fired, and Ohio should be able to attract the most talented workers regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity;
More than 75% of Ohioans favor employment and housing equality.
Take the opportunity on September 27 to visit your State Senator and State Representative to ask them to support EHEA. Equality Ohio will be arranging meetings before and after the Rally.
Help make Ohio a state where everyone feels at home!!
*Rally signs will be provided. However, feel free to make and bring your own.
