![]() For our PFLAG meeting tomorrow, July 12, our speaker will be Edward Green, an attorney and education consultant for Mayerson Academy. Prior to his current position, Ed worked as a high school teacher/ administrator for 15 years. He also worked as an attorney for Legal Aid, serving abused children in the Cincinnati area. During this time of intense political action around gay rights issues and in this season of Pride, Ed will be speaking around the responsibilities we have as a society to support our GLBTQ youth and why Pride matters. He will speak to the consequences that these youth face when they grow up in a world that marginalizes them. His remarks will also include issues around bullying and its deadly consequences. As usual, we meet at Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church, 103 Wm. Howard Taft, at 7 pm for a social period with the meeting itself at 7:30. Wow! Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Pride 2011 festivals are over. PFLAG Cincinnati had a booth at the Northern KY festival in Covington on Saturday and at Fountain Square on Sunday. Many marched in the parade on Sunday. We gave out over 200 rainbow bracelets and pins, over 100 PFLAG booklets, PFLAG pens and suckers & bubble gum. 63 folks signed up for our mailing list. We'll post some photos on the PFLAG Cincinnati Facebook page shortly. Many thanks to all who marched, staffed the booths and just cheered us on. Our next big event is on August 20 & 21 when we will share a booth with GLSEN at the Black Family Reunion, a huge annual festival at Sawyer Point on the Ohio River. We welcome volunteers to help staff the PFLAG booth. We hope to see you soon at one of our meetings. |
